HUMELINK'S IMPACTS WILL EXTEND BEYOND OUR COMMUNITY

As we strive to meet our greenhouse targets as a nation, we must ensure that we build Australia’s renewable energy future based on sustainable, efficient infrastructure and proper planning, not flawed economic modelling and short-term thinking.

After decades of lobbying for climate change reform, Transgrid and HumeLink’s supporters have slapped environmentalists in the face, who are using renewable energy as an excuse to rubber stamp clear-felling of native forests and habitat destruction for profit.

ENVIRONMENT

HumeLink will unnecessarily causes severe habitat destruction for more than 80 threatened or endangered species and will leave a permanent 360km unsightly scar across the NSW landscape, including the iconic Kosciuszko National Park. It will impacting approximately 2500 hectares of land with severe impacts on greenhouse gases and global warming.

ECONOMIC

HumeLink will be NSW’s most expensive energy infrastructure project ever. Yet, it is an economic disaster that will require intense ongoing maintenance and associated high costs. The current plan is solely driven by minimising upfront costs to get the project done and have profits start pouring in.

BUSHFIRES

HumeLink will severely increase the risk of bushfires and loss of life and property while hampering our ability to fight fires on the ground and from the air.

REGIONAL COMMUNITIES

HumeLink devastates dozens of regional communities, businesses and prime agricultural land and significantly increases the potential for mental health issues and depression. Along with impacts to tourism and iconic landscapes across southern New South Wales.

This disaster consists of towers as tall as the Harbour Bridge pylons, cutting an ugly 360km long, 70 metre-wide scar through national parks, state forests and working farms, spanning from Wagga Wagga and Kosciusko National Park to the edge of the beautiful Southern Highlands. Locations are well documented to be where these animals call home.
